Thoughts on this build…
This piece has been a hit - everyone who has seen it in person or in photos has loved it and wanted a similar one.
I was browsing slabs in a local lumber shop to build a coffee table and this particular Ambrosia, spalted maple slab caught my eye - it had a jaggered edge, gorgeous grain and a pinkish hue to it. I jumped on it and knew exactly what I was going to build.
I did come across some spalting and dead wood in one of the piece, which required me to revert to my chisel and dremel to properly remove that section and clean it out, but I decided to make it into a feature, using epoxy and a couple of walnut crotch bowties to tie is all together. I paired the top with subtle, clean, rectangular black powder-coated legs so that they did not distract from the wood and epoxy work.
Needless to say, the customer was thrilled with his new coffee table.
PS: look at that sheen!
